The Pantanal is a wildlife photographer’s paradise and you should be able to get good pictures no matter what camera you have. However for best results I would recommend a DSLR and a long lens.
All the pictures I have taken on this website where taken with a Nikon D80 and a 70-300mm VR lens. I personally think that 300mm is a tad short and could have done with a bigger lens, but you also have to consider cost and ease of carrying it around.
